Sharon Markland

Sharon Markland

Sharon Lee (Gassar) Markland was joyfully reunited with her father Edward Gassar, mother Pauline Hembree Gassar, brother John McCann, and twin Karen Gassar on October 20, 2019. Her death to cancer temporarily separates her from her husband of 37 years, Dan Markland, her daughter and son-in-law Melina (Markland) and Niels Rasmussen, and daughter Jenessa Markland.

Sharon was born in Yakima, graduated from A.C. Davis High School, and attended Washington State University. Upon graduating from WSU, she returned to Yakima, where she met her husband, Dan. Throughout her life, Sharon held various jobs in the valley, but her most cherished was being a wife and mother.

She was active in the P.T.A., which led to her making friends who greatly enriched her life. These P.T.A. ladies continued to meet monthly even decades after their children graduated from high school. Sharon considered her friendships with these women to be one of the greatest treasures in her life.

Sharon was actively involved in her church community and felt blessed to be able to teach an early morning religion class to high school students for nearly a decade. Sharon’s faith in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ was unshakable and her love for her family unwavering.

A funeral service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 4307 Englewood Avenue on Saturday, October 26, at 11:00 AM. Dedication of grave and burial Monday at 11:00 AM at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
