Richard Allen Brewer

Richard was born May 11th, 1946 in Yakima to Forrest and Lydia Brewer. Richard grew up in Yakima and graduated from D.D. Eisenhower High School. In 1978, he married the love of his life, Tammy (Stockton), and later welcomed their daughter Stephanie. He had three other daughters, Kimberly Catania, Suzanne O’Nan, and Jennifer StCin, and 9 grandchildren. Although Richard was born and raised in Yakima, he lived in many places, his favorite adventures being in Baltimore and Yuma where he worked in security and telecommunications. Known for his sense of humor and quick wit, nobody was safe from Dick’s comebacks. He was always doing or saying something to make others laugh. His lack of coordination only added to the humor. On one occasion at a local bowling alley, Dick gathered his ball, took aim, and did the oddest tippy toe approach to the pitch line, but while we were giggling at his mode-Dick forgot to let go of the ball and ended up a few feet away down the alley. The expression on his face could not be put into words as he recovered from his bowling faux pas, but he took it in stride. Richard would often sarcastically answer his wife with a loving “yes dear”, to which he would be reminded that he was never beyond Tammy’s reach. He loved to use movie quotes as punchlines with impeccable timing, Spaceballs quotes were always at the ready. Richard was an animal lover and had many pets throughout his life. His favorite was a Maine Coon cat named Darrell. He acquired Darrell as a kitten and loved him until the very end of Darrell’s life. We often joked that Darrell was the pride and joy in Dick’s life. Like most men his age, Richard loved cars, football, and softball. He was an umpire in the Yakima Valley for women’s softball for many years and helped pave the way for women’s slow pitch leagues. He never missed his grandbabies softball games (GO Cadets!), even moving back to Yakima a little over a year ago to be able to spend as much time as possible with the youngest grandkids. Watching their games was something that brought him great pride and joy over the last year. Dick is survived by his wife Tammy, daughter Stephanie (and Vernon) Dunsworth, grandchildren Haylee, Alayna, and Kenzy Dunsworth, and many friends and family who took the quick wit and made the best memories. May he be the best ump in the afterlife. Services to be announced at a later date.
